Clubhouse Updates

See our updates page for all current information relating to the clubhouse renovation.

Dear Members, Neighbours, Community Users and Sponsors

We would like to confirm that the much awaited West Lawn Tennis Club Renovation started on Monday the 10th of August and phase 1 is scheduled for completion in March 2016.

The WELTC Committee would like to thank you for your patience and support over the next 8 months while the build is occurring. We have tried to plan for all contingencies but are aware there will be things that don’t go as planned and frustrations along the way so thanks in advance for your support of this project. We will continue running fundraising activities over the next 12 -24 months and urge all of you to help if you can.

To keep you informed, effective 10 August;

  1. The clubhouse was closed.
  2. The footprint will be fundamentally the same with an increase from the current office to the pillars, the balcony will extend slightly further to the court fence line and the internal stairs on the south east corner will be removed. This will be functionally more efficient.
  3. The building area is cordoned off and hoardings have been erected to protect the public and courts.
  4. Construction vehicles will be parked on Fife Street beside the clubrooms and courts and building materials will be delivered here.
  5. During most of the build process there will be no thoroughfare from Fife St to Cox’s Bay Reserve for health and safety reasons. Pedestrian access to the park will be detoured via West End Road or Nottingham Street.
  6. The WELTC office and members’ lounge has been relocated to two portacoms beside court 3.  There is a container for storage, shaded picnic areas, portaloos and pop-up changing rooms.
  7. Car-parking and access to WELTC for members and visitors is via Cox’s Bay Reserve off West End Road.
  8. Gates 1 & 2 are closed and court access is via gate 3, beside the temporary office.
  9. The court light switches have been relocated to the fence on court 5.
  10. Tennis Auckland has been advised and will notify visiting interclub teams of the logistics.

We will arrange times with the construction company to show members, neighbours and sponsors though the clubhouse at various stages of the renovation process.
